Taste of Atlanta Returns in October, Tickets on Sale July 11

Taste of Atlanta returns October 24-26th and will feature goodies from dozens of Atlanta restaurants. The event goes on sale July 11 with ticket prices starting at $25 for General Admission (in advance), $35 at the event and includes 10 taste coupons (extra coupons are $1 each). VIP cost $75 now, $85 at the event, and will include 10 taste coupons, soevenirs, and exclusive access to the Wine+Beer+Cocktail Experience. Festival Kickoff Party begins on Friday, Oct 24 at 7:30pm and the festival runs from 11am-6pm Saturday and Sunday (VIP Experience is 12:30-5:30pm). This will be held across 10 blocks in Midtown at Tech Square, including Spring and Fifth streets.
 

Five Atlanta Restaurants on 'The 101 Best Burgers in America' List

The Daily Meal listed the double cheeseburger at Holeman & Finch Public House as 7th in its list of The 101 Burgers in America. The restaurant is known for it's secret menu item, only selling 24 of them at 10 o'clock each night (and all during Sunday brunch). Other Atlanta restaurants included on the list are Hell Burger (30), Ann's Snack Bar (45), The Varsity (64), and Flip Burger Boutique (78).
 

Atlanta Housing Prices Rise Again - One of Fastest in U.S.

In April, most metro areas saw price increases, according to a report issued by the S&P/Case Shiller Home Price Indices. Those increases were at a slower pace than in previous months, but Metro Atlanta showed one of the strongest price increases among all the cities in America. Atlanta prices went up 13.7% compared to the same period last year. The fastest price hikes were in Las Vegas, where prices rose 18.8 percent during the past 12 months.
 
 

Atlanta Home Values Averaged $145,400 in May

Inventory of bottom-tier-priced homes in Atlanta dipped 1.8%, while middle-tier-priced homes went up to 4.5% and inventory of top-tier-priced homes went down to 2.8%.
Zillow Chief Economist Stan Humphries said, “It’s likely that many would-be sellers have decided to capitalize on recent home value gains, particularly as the pace slows, and list their home for sale now in order to move into a new home while mortgage interest rates remain low”. In May, Home values in Atlanta grew as inventory for middle-tier-priced homes rose. The average home values in Atlanta averaged $145,400 -- which increased from 1.3% from April and 16.4% year-over-year, as reported by Zillow.
 

Metro Atlanta World's 44th Biggest Economy

According to a report released by the U.S. Conference of Mayors, Atlanta is the 10th largest metropolitan economy in the U.S and the 44th largest world economy with $306 billion in gross metropolitan product last year. "Metropolitan Atlanta - with the City of Atlanta at its core - is a major economic force to be reckoned with, not only in the U.S., but in the world," Mayor Kasim Reed said.
 

Atlanta Joins Bid For More Car Charging Stations

Denise Quarles, The city's director of sustainability has said that more charging stations must be available and should be accessible to meet driver demand, and he is encouraging local businesses to sign up. Atlanta officials say that the city has joined a federal initiative aimed at increasing the numbers of employees who offer workplace charging for plug-in vehicles. In North America, Atlanta was ranked second last year for plug-in vehicle sales.
 

Homebuilding Prospects in Metro Atlanta Looking Up

According to Atlanta Journal-Constitution, expect continued, steady growth in new home construction as the housing market continues to grow healthier. It is said by the President of Smart Numbers, Steve Palm, an Atlanta analysis firm, unless things turn around, things are looking good. Potential issues include the price of building materials may rise faster, the huge funds that bought up depressed housing could distort the market, and the Middle East crisis might have a crucial effect on energy prices. New home buyers had traditionally accounted for about a third or more of the metro Atlanta market, peaking around 35 percent in 1998.
 
 

Atlanta's Global Business News Source Wins Presidential Export Service Award

New East Atlanta Summer Day Camp

The East Atlanta Kids Club is sponsoring a summer camp for kids 7-14 years of age again this year. Olio was made to deliver an inexpensive day camp option for parents while giving youngsters five whole days of summer fun. East Atlanta is already welcoming to kids in many ways. Some resources include the East Atlanta Parents Association, the Kids Club, and Brownwood Park. There are a number of summer camps and activities in the Southeast Atlanta area for parents to choose from. Along with these options popping up in Southeast Atlanta, parents may find the annual hunt for summer activities a little easier.
