Thank G-d 2008 is over and 2009 is the year of getting back to the basics! Here are some basics to revisit that will help create consistency in your real estate business and help make 2009 the best year ever. So how do we develop new work and sales habits?

  1. Understanding the power of repetitious boredom… We all know how powerful studying the same content over and over can be (remember flash cards from high school? Or studying the same history dates ‘til you thought you would never forget them?). We need to approach scripts the same way. By studying scripts over and over and over again (like Tiger Woods spending hours of time going over the same putting stroke), we can be the best in our game.
  2. Understand the accumulation effect… Again, think back to when you were a child. Every week or every month, you tucked a little bit of money away in your piggy bank and, after a while, you had quite a bit of money. In real estate, this would apply to prospecting. The more phone calls you make, the more leads you get. The more leads you get, the more appointments you’re likely to set, resulting in signed Buyer Agency Agreements and Listing Agreements. These then turn into transactions, which turn into income which keep accumulating in your bank account.
  3. Understand the effects of repetitious boredom… By practicing the same scripts every day and implementing them in your prospecting every day, you will begin to see a return on your investment (see #2, accumulation effect).
  4. Understand the power of positive and negative affirmations… I never really thought about negative affirmations before (always writing down my positive affirmations), but negative affirmations would be something like “That doesn’t work for me,” “I don’t want to do that,” etc. – all those excuses for reasons why we don’t learn scripts and why we don’t prospect. If you think you can, then you will be able to. If you let your negative affirmations get in the way, you’ll be the only one holding yourself back.
  5. And lastly, we must work to increase efficiency!

Incorporate these five things into our lives and we WILL increase our business and our income. Even if it takes two years to perfect our systems, as long as it improves our lives, it’s worth working towards. For instance, if you lift weights and it burns your muscles, you know you must push beyond the pain because it’s the only way to grow. Our muscles may not hurt when we practice scripts or prospect, but our brain might. The game is still mental and you have to push beyond your mind’s reluctance.

Never stop learning!
