Hello neighbors,

As we all know, 2009 has been filled with it's ups as well as it's downs. In addition we have lost some major stars and have had some major changes. I'm sure it's safe to say 2009 will be a year forever remembered. Some of the most memorable events and stories during this year include:

The Inauguration of the 44th president of the United States - On January 20, 2009 Barack H. Obama was sworn into the presidency. Obama is the first African American to hold the office of U.S. Commander-in-Chief.

Recession of 2009 - Starting in December 2007, this recession has been the longest and most severe in the post-war period.

H1N1/Swine Flu - The first H1N1 case was reported in Mexico, March 2009 which eventually spread to the U.S. claiming approximately 3900 lives.

Beatrice Arthur aka Dorothy Dies - Bea Arthur, one of the stars from the hit series the Golden Girls, died at the age of 86 on April 25, 2009.

The King of Pop Dies - Right before his final tour, Michael Jackson died on June 25, 2009. Cause of death; acute propofol intoxication. Jackson died two months before his 51st birthday.

Oprah Winfrey announces the end of her show - November 2009, the queen of talk, Oprah Winfrey announced that she's calling it quits in September 2011.

Tiger Woods' Infidelity - In December 2009, Tiger Woods became the center of one of the most talked about infidelity scandals of the year in sports.
