HUD (The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development) is now offering booklets to consumers in the home buying market.

The newly released settlement cost booklet, was developed to help consumers find the best possible mortgage rates for their needs. By obtaining this booklet, consumers can familiarize themselves with the home buying process and the various stages involved, as well as how interest rates, points, balloon payments, and prepayment penalties can affect their monthly mortgage payment.

In addition, HUD's newly released booklet will also provide information on your loan after settlement, and can also help you identify issues to consider before getting a home equity loan or refinancing your mortgage.

Lastly, HUD's "consumer helper" will provide a contact for consumers who may have additional questions after completing the booklet.
