Hello neighbors,

The property tax saga continues throughout the metro Atlanta area. According to the AJC, it seems that residents in the Northern Atlanta area, specifically Gwinnett County, will receive a Christmas gift of a property tax increase. It was reported in the AJC that residents of the county will get a second bill for 2009 taxes early next year.

The AJC noted that Gwinnett County commissioners agreed to a 21 percent increase in property taxes in a 4-1 vote last month. It was also noted that the increase in property taxes will add $52 million to Gwinnett County's emergency services and courts and recreations. In addition, approximately one-third of the additional funds will go towards debt retirement as well as covering the drop in commercial values that are predicted for next year. Additional funds from the tax increase will also be used towards the county's public safety.
